Heart’s Content, Newfoundland - Communications between Europe and North America went from messages being sent on 10-day sea voyage to being transmitted in minutes when in 1866 the first transatlantic cable was laid from western Ireland along the floor of the Atlantic Ocean to Heart’s Content, Newfoundland. A museum in town that commemorates the event and is now a Provincial Historic Site.
