Brackendale is home to the world's largest concentration of bald eagles

Squamish, British Columbia - The community of Brackendale, just north of Squamish, is one of the best places in the world to spot bald eagles. Weave your way north from Vancouver along the spectacularly scenic ‘Sea to Sky Highway ‘, and after about 65 km/40 mi (almost half-way to Whistler) you’ll reach the winter home of thousands of these magestic birds. Located at the head of Howe Sound, Paradise Valley attracts an estimated 10,000 eagles between mid-November and mid-February. A world record of 3,766 bald eagles were counted at the annual Brackendale Winter Eagle Count on January 9, 1994. The eagles devour spawning salmon in the Squamish River, and roost in cottonwood trees along the shore. The best months to view them are December and January, and one of the best viewing points is Eagle Run view point on Government Road.
