Lake Louise, Alberta - Located 57 km (35 miles from Banff), at an elevation of 1,731 m (5,680 ft), Lake Louise is the biggest ski area in the Canadian Rockies, with 18 sq km (11 sq m) of terrain on four mountain faces. It has the most snow-making acreage in North America and snow can be produced as early as October, so by late November it's ready for the World Cup competitors. Because of its consistently excellent early season ski conditions, it's the only resort in the world to host back-to-back World Cup races on consecutive weekends. Summer or winter, the scenery is spectacular. Check out the view from the historic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and guest or not, in warm weather, take time to enjoy the breathtaking view, paddle a canoe or go for a stroll up the lakeside path in front of the hotel. Lake Louise is the highest permanent settlement in Canada.
