St Catharines, Ontario – Wander down to the beach in old Old Port Dalhousie and you’ll think you’ve stepped back in time. There, in a small park beside the water is a wonderful 1903 Looff
menagerie carousel, with 69 colourful animals. But, it’s not just the carousel it’s self that’s authentic – so is the price – it still only costs five cents to ride. It operates from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., between Victoria Day weekend and Labour Day (double-check hours here.)

You’ll find it in the 105-year-old Lakeside Park, on the St. Catharines Waterfront Trail, which links the park and a live theatre with the busy harbour, a bird sanctuary, etc. This is the
area where the original Welland Canal began and the mighty ships can be seen from nearby St. Catharines Museum at Lock 3 where there are viewing platforms. From St. Catharines you are
just a 20-minute drive to Niagara Falls.
