Quebec City, Quebec – Quebec City held it’s first large carnival to celebrate winter in 1894. The current annual Quebec City Winter Carnival has now been going for more than 60 years. It’s claimed to be the “World’s Largest Winter Carnival!”
And there, within a few streets of office towers, visitors have the opportunity to try driving their own dog sled team. You’ll find the sleds, with teams of 4 to 6 dogs, up on the Plains of Abraham overlooking the Carnival activities and the city. Other fun activities range from snow slides to exploring or enjoying events at the ice palace, and watching one of the world’s toughest sports – Ice Canoe Racing as the teams struggle to cross among ice flows on the mighty St. Lawrence River. While you are in the city you can visit the nearby Ice Hotel, or even arrange to spend the night there.
