Nepean, Ottawa region, Ontario – Born in the Ottawa suburb of Nepean on November 30, 1971, multi-award-winning actor Sandra Oh is currently best known as Christina Yang, a young medical intern on the hit television series Grey’s Anatomy.

Oh’s parents were born in Korea and were graduate students at the University of Toronto. After settling in Ottawa, her father worked as an economist with the Federal government and her mother worked at the University of Ottawa. Sandra started ballet at the age of 4 and started acting at the age of 10. She performed with her high school’s team (Sir Robert Borden HS) at the High School Improve Games, and from there she was recruited to be a member of a student improve group called Skit Row High, which preformed at the National Arts Centre.

After graduating high school Sandra went to the prestigious National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal. On the Sandra Oh website she is quoted speaking about why she feels proud to be a Canadian “…the Canadian government [is on its way to] legalizing gay marriage and decriminalizing pot. Those are small things on the big scale of what is going on in the world, but they’re things where Canadians are far ahead.” You can follower her on Twitter at @IamSandraOh

Nepean is a suburb in Ottawa’s west end. It has a museum at 16 Rowley Avenue.
