Canada is home to the steepest, tallest cliff anywhere on earth – Mont Thor, Nunavut

Mount Thor by Anasgar WalkBaffin Island, Nunavut – Canada is home to the steepest, tallest cliff anywhere on earth – 1,250 metres!  It’s a feature of Mont Thor, in Auyuittuq National Park on Baffin Island. It’s remote, about 46 km northeast of the Inuit community of Pangnirtung, yet it is still popular for rock climbing. The first assent was made by a member of the Alpine Club of Canada in 1965. The world record for longest rappel was set by an American team on Mount Thor in 2006 (sadly, a 26-year-old Canadian Park warden fell to his death during that attempt.)
