Ellesmere Island, Nunavut – An excavation by the Canadian Museum of Nature on the island’s west coast at Strathcona Fiord, uncovered remains of a giant camel, 30 per cent larger than today ‘ships of the desert.’ Although remains of other ancient camels have been found in North America, scientists believe these may be the actual ancestors of today’s modern camels.
