I love this. On the third weekend of September very year Southeastern P.E.I. hosts a yard sale that’s hard to equal, it’s a 70 mile long yard sale. About 150 vendors, in private homes, churches, halls, etc., welcome visitors along a 100 km route that winds along the southeast coast and down back roads. A free guide is produced early in September and given away at local businesses, on the ferry from Nova Scotia, and at P.E.I. Visitor Information offices throughout the province. The book will give you details on who is selling what, and where, from island crafts, children’s toys, antiques, books, etc., to who is opening of their home for coffee and tea, shucking oysters, or selling lobster rolls, chowder and seaweed pie. And, you’ll find some local businesses included, such as cottages you can stay in. The whole event is officially known as the ’70 Mile Coastal Yard Sale.’ The official vendors sell between 9am and 4pm on the Saturday and Sunday, and are marked by special balloons. The event is run by volunteers with the Wood Islands and Area Development Corporation. Check their website for a downloadable PDF of the Guide booklet.
