Weyburn, Saskatchewan - The lateTommy Douglas, former Premier of Saskchewan, who also happens to have been the grandfather of '24' star Kiefer Sutherland, is credited with bringing us our universal health care system. The first such system in North America. The Scottish-born minister from Calvery Baptist Church in Weyburn, Saskatchewan was elected in the 1940's, and lead the first socalist government in North America. He's credited with saying: "I was a printer and then I became a preacher. Then I became a politician and then I became a Premier. And that is the true descent of man." |
