Regina, Saskatchewan - Actor Leslie Neilsen's father was a Mountie, Francis Dickens (1844-1886), son of author Charles Dickens, emigrated to Canada and became a Mountie. The North West Mounted Police enabled the peaceful settlement of Canada's west. Known today as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Regina is the sole training academy for the new members of this world-famous police force. At the Regina training academy you can visit the RCMP Centennial Museum , watch the cadets practic drills in the Sergeant Major's Parade, learn about the history of the RCMP, (such as the friendship and respect between Major James Walsh and Chief Sitting Bull) and enjoy and Sunset Retreat Ceremonies. |
