What Makes Canada Cool?
Children can ride an authentic 1903 carousel for just five cents
Carousel at Lakeside Beach, Old Port Dahousie in St. Catharines
St Catharines, Ontario - Wander down to the beach in old Old Port Dalhousie and you'll think you've steped back in time. There, in a small park beside the water is a wonderful 1903 Looff menagerie carousel, with 69 colourful animials. But, it's not just the carousel it's self that's authentic - so is the price - it still only costs five cents to ride. It operates from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., between Victoria Day weekend and Labour Day. You'll find it in the 105-year-old Lakeside Park, on the St. Catharines Waterfront Trail, which links the park and a live theatre with the busy harbour , a bird sanctuary, etc. This is where the original Welland Canal began.
