Fredericton, New Brunswick - The capital of New Brunswick, the city of Fredericton, offers residents, businesses and visitors free wireless internet. Fredericton has created Fred-eZone, a not-for-profit, community-wide free Wi-Fi network that allows users with Wi-Fi enabled laptops or PDAs free internet access throughout much of the city. The system, which covers 30 sq miles was set up to help attract and retain knowledge-based businesses, computer-savvy residents and young entrepreneurs. The city contracts to supply pre-determined amounts of bandwidth to government institutions and businesses, and its the surplus that they don't use that becomes available to operate the free Wi-Fi network.
